Ylang ylang essential oil is produced through steam distillation of the petals of the yellow flowers of the tall, tropical cananga tree. The intensely rich, sweet aroma is full of exoticism, making it one of the most sought after aromas both in the manufacture of household products and cosmetics and also food and beverages.
The romance of the plant’s tropical origins and its heady aroma is borne out by the Indonesian tradition of showering the marriage bed of newlyweds with ylang ylang petals in the belief that their fragrance has aphrodisiac qualities.
