Indulge your skin with essential oils

Now that the temperatures are (generally) up and the sun’s making a longer daytime appearance, taking care of our skin is highly critical. With the best will in the world and the strongest SPF cream, accidents can still happen and we can get burnt.

Sunburn can be very uncomfortable, especially when you’re trying to sleep at night. So join us as we explore some of the essential oils that can be used to nourish your skin.

Carrot seed essential oil

Rich in antioxidants and used in lots of moisturisers, carrot seed essential oil is a vital tool in your summertime kit. Try mixing a few drops in with some aloe vera gel and applying it to the affected area for instant soothing and lasting moisturisation.

Helichrysum essential oil

Helichrysum essential oil is derived from a plant that’s known for its medicinal properties and contains antifungal and antimicrobial properties, making it a great for rubbing onto the skin during warmer weather. As with carrot seed, helichrysum essential oil mixes really well with aloe vera gel to make an at-home natural remedy.

Myrrh essential oil

Derived from a thorny shrub often found in the Middle East and the Horn of Africa, myrrh has long been celebrated for its abilities to help heal all manner of complaints and conditions. Try blending a few drops of myrrh with a single drop of peppermint oil and an ounce of coconut oil to create a cooling, soothing at-home lotion that can be used all over your body.

Rose essential oil

The delicious perfume of rose essential oil has a wide range of uses and is often used in skincare products. Blended with a couple of drops of helichrysum essential oil and added to a bottle of distilled water, rose can help to create a cooling facial and body mist that will keep you comfortable when the mercury rises.

Don’t leave without your oils

So if you’re planning on hitting the beach this summer or you’re bound for exotic locations, make sure you pack some essential oils in your kit so that you can indulge your skin, cool yourself down and even treat painful patches of sunburn if you’re unlucky enough to be afflicted.
